Local Reviewer’s Thoughts on
.unseen. hip hop Dance Co.

From the time they take the stage, to the time they exit, UnSeen has something a lot of dance crews do not have. Before the music even starts, you’re already watching them. You can’t look away. They’ve already captured the audience just by their look alone. By the time the first step is taken, you’re entranced. It’s something that isn’t taught, it’s something that just happens, and it’s called: stage presence and they’ve mastered it.

Now with great stage presence, there is also the bigger piece of the puzzle. Every move, step, jump, clap is carefully calculated but doesn’t come off unnatural whatsoever. Everybody is moving constantly, even if they’re not involved with that portion of the dance. Every thing they’re doing on stage is a build up to the next level they’re about to take you visually. Every member does their part in a big mass of dancing that puts the “entertain” in entertaining.

A lot of great performers are the whole package. They’ve got the look, the moves, the skills, and charisma to go a long way. But like most greats, there’s that little word called “ego.” UnSeen doesn’t know that word. When you tell them they did something absolutely amazing, they say “thank you” with a very humbling smile that says: We’re good, but we’re not there yet. That’s what’s missing with most entertainers these days. The pride and maturity in knowing that no matter how well you perform, you still know that there’s always room for growth is what separates UnSeen from the others.

UnSeen is fantastic. Straight up. They’re the real deal and there’s no denying that. You’ve got a group of people who are doing all the right things and it almost looks easy. I stress the word almost. As they continue to grow and improve, the only question remains is where does their potential end, for that, remains to be unseen.
